Minnesota Democrats are protecting abortion rights
Since the Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade and the constitutional right to abortion, thirteen states have enacted near-total or total abortion bans, including our neighbors in North Dakota and South Dakota.
Minnesota abortion providers are already seeing an overwhelming influx of patients from out-of-state as a result.
And even though the majority of Minnesotans want to keep abortion safe and legal in our state, Minnesota Republicans voted against a law protecting and expanding access to abortion care.
Minnesota Democrats and Governor Tim Walz listened to Minnesotans and fought to codify the right to safe, legal abortion.
Governor Walz signed the Protect Reproductive Options (PRO) Act into law. The PRO Act established the fundamental right for every Minnesotan to make decisions about their reproductive health care, including the right to abortion, contraception, fertility treatment, and to carry a pregnancy to term.
And Governor Walz signed the Reproductive Freedom Defense Act to ensure that patients traveling to Minnesota for abortion care and their providers are protected from legal attacks and criminal penalties from other states that have banned abortion.
